The scene on reaching Wilcot’s delightful ground, appeared to your reporter as a backdrop for The Wind in the Willows. Of course, you could argue that there was little or no resemblance to Kenneth Grahame’s masterpiece as there was not a river but a canal and there were no willows only oaks. There was at least Mr. Toad, however, resplendent in his eagerly anticipated new form of transport, with a gaggle of envious onlookers each hoping to be the next person to accompany him on his return journey in his impressive vehicle. more...
